Stone Slabs, Hearths & Mantels - Sturgeon River Black Granite
*** LEAD TIME ALERT *** Our normal lead time on slabs is 6 to 8 weeks, but larger Sturgeon River Black Granite slabs (6' and up) can require 2 to 3+ month lead time, occasionally even longer. Long slabs require very large blocks from the quarry, and the stone itself (inside the block) must have consistent veining to ensure structural integrity. This often leads to much slower production time. Please call to discuss if you're considering this stone for 6 feet or longer.
THE STONE
Sturgeon River Black Granite is about as black as natural stone gets — a deep, rich, consistent black with exceptional density and quality. Black masonry is having its moment: black window frames, black trim, black accents — and this is the stone that carries that look in natural stone rather than dyed concrete. Flame the surface and it takes on a matte, textured, slightly silvered character; polish it and the black goes glass-deep. It works equally well in sharp modern builds and rustic settings, which is why it's become our most-asked-about granite.
As a slab it makes a commanding hearth, counter, or mantel — and it's equally at home outdoors as pool coping, pier caps, and feature pieces. Flamed is the most popular treatment here: matte, textured, slip-resistant, and unmistakably natural.
YOUR CHOICES — HOW TO ORDER
The selector on this page prices your exact piece in a few clicks — no quote needed:
1. Thickness. Pick from the buttons. Thicker slabs can run longer: 2¼″ to 60″, 3″ to 72″, and 4″, 5″ and 6″ up to 120″.
2. Depth and length — any inch. Type or step to your exact dimensions. We bill at the next stocked size up and cut down to your number — cutting included. The selector shows you both figures, so there are never surprises.
3. Edges (no charge). 1 L-Edge Rock-Face is the classic — hand-chiselled on the long exposed edge; 2 L-Edge and 3 Rock-Face Edges when more sides show; Saw Cut Smooth for a clean modern line; 1L-Live Edge leaves the natural weathered quarry face exposed on the long edge — the most organic look we offer.
4. Surface. Textured, Polished, or Flamed — see below.
Flamed — we run an ultra-high-temperature flame across the surface, which bursts the outer crystal structure and leaves a textured, naturally slip-resistant face. The result is unpredictable in the best way: every flamed piece is one of a kind. Polished — ground and buffed to a smooth finish that pulls the colour and veining forward; the deeper the polish, the more the stone glows. Textured — a mechanically worked (bush-hammered style) surface with a consistent, grippy matte finish.
5. Quantity, add to cart. Single slabs over 72″ need special freight arrangements — the selector routes you to us automatically so we can set up rigging and the right carrier.
Every price is per piece before volume discount — the discount applies automatically in the cart as your order total grows, so larger orders always price themselves.
