THE STONE

Sturgeon River Black Granite is about as black as natural stone gets — a deep, rich, consistent black with exceptional density and quality. Black masonry is having its moment: black window frames, black trim, black accents — and this is the stone that carries that look in natural stone rather than dyed concrete. Flame the surface and it takes on a matte, textured, slightly silvered character; polish it and the black goes glass-deep. It works equally well in sharp modern builds and rustic settings, which is why it's become our most-asked-about granite.

YOUR CHOICES — HOW TO ORDER

1. Thickness. The step height as laid. A 7″ riser is the classic comfortable step; 5″ and 6″ suit lower-profile runs and doubled treads. Sturgeon River is supplied at 7″ — the classic full-height riser — in lengths from 36″ to 84″.

2. Depth — any inch. This is your tread (front-to-back). 12″ is a minimum walking tread; 14″–18″ feels generous underfoot; go deeper for landings and door stoops. Deeper cuts carry a small quarry adder that's already built into the price you see.

3. Length — any inch. Set your exact width; we bill at the next stocked length and cut to your number. The selector shows a per-square-foot figure alongside the piece price so you can sanity-check value as you size.

4. Edge — no charge. Rock-Faced: hand-chiselled, the classic squared step. Natural / Live Edge: the weathered quarry face left exposed — one of a kind, looks a century old the day it's laid (supplied as available; we confirm before production). Sawn: a clean, modern line.

5. Quantity and add to cart. Steps ship crated on freight; for oversized single pieces we'll arrange rigging with you.

Every price is per piece before volume discount — the discount applies automatically in the cart as your order total grows, so larger orders always price themselves.

GOOD TO KNOW

A comfortable outdoor stair keeps every riser identical — the body notices a half-inch difference at the third step. Solid stone steps make that easy: each piece is the riser. For squared multi-step runs, set each step back on step spacers (cheeks) so courses stay level and risers stay consistent front to back. Sawn top-and-bottom bedding faces mean the pieces stack true without shimming.
