Importing Natural Stone from Canada into the USA

Updated October 2026

Most of our customers are in the United States. We ship every order from our stone yard in Southwestern Ontario, book the truck, and arrange and pay the customs broker. You pick the stone, send us one short form, and the stone shows up at your site.

How it works

1
Place your order online. Add your stone to the cart and the site prices freight to your zip code, from a few pallets to 10+ full loads (one full load is about 23 tons). We can handle any size order. Pay in US dollars.
2
Send us your Form 5106. First-time importers fill out one CBP form so customs knows who the stone is going to. It takes about 15 minutes, and you only do it once.
3
We cut, split, pack and palletize. Every order is palletized at the yard, then picked up on a flatbed. Most orders are ready to ship in 6 to 8 weeks.
4
We handle the border. Our customs broker clears the shipment into the US. Paperwork in order means no hold-ups at the crossing.
5
Delivered to your site. The truck arrives at your street address. Off-loading equipment (forklift, skid steer) is usually required at the receiving end, arranged by you. On smaller orders (typically under 5,000 lbs) we can request a lift-gate truck. Slab orders always need off-loading equipment on site.

Duties and tariffs

Our stone is quarried and cut in Ontario, so it qualifies as Canadian-made under USMCA (the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement). That means:

US import duty on natural building stoneNone
10% tariff on Canadian goods (Section 301)Exempt
50% tariff list (Section 338: autos, dairy, wood products and more)N/A

Our broker files the USMCA claim with your shipment. Nothing extra for you to do.

Form 5106, explained

CBP Form 5106 (Create/Update Importer Identity Form) registers the buyer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection as the importer of record. Homeowners and contractors both use it. If you've imported anything into the US before, you're probably already on file. Tell us and we'll skip it.

What you'll need

  • Your name or business name, mailing address, phone and email
  • A business EIN, or your Social Security Number if you're buying as an individual
  • Your delivery address, if it's different from your mailing address

Fill out sections 1, 2 and 4 (Section 3 is optional for most buyers), sign it, and email it back to us. We pass it to the broker with your shipping documents.

Common questions

Do I need to hire my own customs broker?

No. We arrange and pay the broker on every US order. If you'd rather use your own, just let us know.

Do I pay in US dollars?

Yes. Switch the store to United States (USD) at the top of the page and every price, plus freight, shows in US dollars.

How long does shipping take once it leaves the yard?

A few extra days compared to a domestic shipment, depending on where you are. We'll give you a delivery window when your order ships.

What if my order is huge or my site is remote?

Call us. Large projects and hard-to-reach sites get a custom freight quote.
